Dali painting returns to Beaverbrook gallery

Salvadore Dali’s Santiago El Grande is back in Fredericton after an exhibition in Atlanta, Ga. (CBC) The Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s signature piece Santiago El Grande is back on display in Fredericton after a successful visit to Atlanta, Ga. For the first time since the Salvador Dali masterpiece was acquired by the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in 1959, it left Fredericton last August as part of a deal with the High Museum in Atlanta.

Pacino to play Matisse in Deepa Mehta film

Al Pacino is to play Henri Matisse in film directed by Canada’s Deepa Mehta. (Matt J. Terrill/Associated Press) Veteran U.S. actor Al Pacino is to play Henri Matisse in a forthcoming film about the French artist, with the project to be directed by Canada’s Deepa Mehta. Variety reports the 70-year-old actor, known for his roles in The Godfather and The Merchant of Venice, has signed on to portray the French modernist painter, printmaker and sculptor.

Google’s Street View takes in art around the world

Google is opening the doors of some of the world’s most famous museums to armchair web surfers. Using its Street View cameras, the world wide web giant has entered 17 museums ranging from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid with the Google Art Project.
