‘Lost’ Auction Features Prop Cars

They’re not exactly vehicles you’d find at the Barrett-Jackson auctions, but for fans who followed the six seasons of “Lost,” a 40 year-old Chevrolet Camaro and an old blue-and-white Volkswagen Type 2 van may be valuable mobile souvenirs.

Those two vehicles — along with a rather ratty baby-blue Jeep — will be included in an auction of “Lost” props and costumes at a hangar at Santa Monica Airport in California this weekend. The auctioneer running the event is Profiles in History.

Of the three vehicles, the Camaro could be the most interesting. It was driven by Hugo “Hurley” Reyes, one of the main characters in the series. The car, which is estimated to bring in up to $25,000, is in operating condition and equipped with a small block V-8 engine with an automatic transmission. The air conditioning gear is gone, and a small crack decorates a corner of the windshield.

According to the auction catalog, the Camaro was featured in the episodes “Tricia Tanaka Is Dead” and “The Beginning of the End.”

But there’s a catch: The automobile is not guaranteed to be road-worthy. Neither is the VW van, which served the “Lost” characters in the island’s motor pool. The van is described as showing some wear, ”some paint scuffs on the sides and an abrasion just left of the Dharma logo; otherwise, it remains in very good condition. Includes a bag of distressed tools.”
