Toronto puts ‘Blue’ back in Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays players will sport a new look on the field next season in at least one way, with their attire.

The team unveiled their 2012 uniforms, complete with a new, er, familiar logo that connects the past with the future.

The logo is a modernized version of the club’s powder blue jerseys from the 1980s, only this time the organization opted for darker, royal blue.

The primary logo features the Blue Jays’ bird head with the red Maple Leaf and ball in the centre, an arched “Toronto” above and split letter “Blue Jays” in blue.

“Updating our original logo, the strong affinity to go back to “Blue” and returning the red maple leaf to the primary mark recognizes the classic look of which we feel baseball logos and uniforms should consist,” Blue Jays president and CEO Paul Beeston stated in a statement.

“The uniforms truly capture the essence of the Blue Jays vision, showing our strong commitment to our country as Canada’s only Major League Baseball club.”

The team also announced the CN Tower would be lit blue from sunset to midnight ET Friday as a salute to the team’s 35-history, new logo and uniforms.

As well, pitchers Ricky Romero and Brandon Morrow along with catcher J.P. Arencibia and Adam Lind will stay in Toronto for an autograph session Friday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Jays Shop at Sears in the Eaton Centre
