THE Winklevoss twins just cannot cut a break.

A New York appellate judge has ruled that Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss – the brothers who tried and failed to sue Mark Zuckerberg – must pay $13 million in legal fees to the law firm that helped them reach a settlement with Facebook, The Hollywood Reporter stated today.

The twins – nicknamed “The Winklevi” – have sued Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg several times, alleging, along with fellow Harvard classmate Divya Narendra, that Zuckerberg stole their idea for Facebook.

The twins eventually reached a $65 settlement with Zuckerberg, but then attempted to renege on the deal – accusing Facebook executives of lying about the value of the company during negotiations – because they thought they should have received more money.

After an unsuccessful appeal to the Supreme Court, the Winklevoss twins launched an entirely new suit.

In the fallout of their initial suit, however, the litigious brothers also sued the law firm of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, which represented them in the first case, accusing their lawyers of malpractice for violating confidentiality agreements by revealing the $65 million settlement figure.

An arbitration panel told the twins they still had to pay the law firm its $13 million in legal fees, a decision they appealed to a New York Supreme Court judge who confirmed it.

Today’s ruling by the New York Appellate Division therefore marked the twins’ second unsuccessful appeal to have the legal fees rescinded.

The Appellate Division informed the twins they have received “sufficient due deliberation,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
