WPIX picks Meyrowitz
Tribune Broadcasting has named Eric Meyrowitz general manager of its Gotham flagship WPIX-TV New York.
Meyrowitz will succeed Betty Ellen Berlamino, who was let go by Tribune Broadcasting prexy Jerry Kersting in June.
Meyrowitz has managed Tribune’s D.C. station, WDCW, since 2004. He started in the station’s sales department in 2000.
“Eric is the right guy for the job,” Kersting said. “Even more so because he is originally from New York.”
The station made the news in April for nabbing reruns of “Seinfeld” from Fox affiliate WNYW. It has also upped the ante on the competitive local morning news race. WPIX starts its early newscast at 4 a.m., ahead of the competish’s 4:30 broadcasts.
